As yoga increases in popularity, we see an increase in the variety of conditions that our students bring to class. Yoga teachers must possess a multitude of skills to safely lead their students towards the benefits of an asana practice, and a chair can be just the tool to make asana rewarding to our students. Join yoga teacher and yoga therapist Erin Ehlers to explore how using the chair to modify yoga poses can expand the practice, welcome diverse students and challenge us to become more adept teachers. Some of the situations that a chair may help our students can include: Skeletal concerns (osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, osteopenia) Joint repairs and replacements Balance concerns (vestibular and deconditioned strength) Limited range of motion from injury or sedentary habits Fatigue from illness and illness recovery Concerns that contraindicate standing or balancing (those in wheelchairs, or who use walkers or with disorders of the nervous system) New students who need support in their first months in class And...any student who can benefit from support in their understanding of yoga poses! We will practice a chair yoga sequence, discuss the conditions that chair yoga can assist and look at the amazing adaptations of familiar yoga poses that this prop can provide. Please come with your questions and your willingness to learn! Handouts will be provided, bring paper and pen. Erin Ehlers brings 15 years of teaching experience. With a passion for anatomy, asana and adapting yoga to the individual student, she inspires teachers to hone their skills in helping their students.

Many thanks to our Host Locations, YiA Allies and Partners
